Our mission is to develop and utilize humanoid robots for analyzing and improving behavior principles of children with ASD and go beyond the simple goal of using robots as a neat toy. To achieve our mission, we use and develop robotic technology to interpret behavior, determine behavior appropriateness, provide feedback and adaptation for behavior therapy progress, and reward if behavior is improved towards therapeutic goals. We use two commercially available humanoid robots, Nao and Zeno, to develop and provide the necessary tools for our research such as facial expression recognition, speech processing, and multi-modal feedback systems for automatic interventions with children with ASD. In such way, we stride to provide a research base for future treatment of children with ASD through human robot interaction.
